It represents the last barrier against the desertification of South Morocco and is certainly the tree of the future for arid regions.

But it is also the ‘tree of life’ in a region where it ensures the subsistence of nearly 3 millions people. To try to preserve the perennity of the argan-orchard, UNESCO declared it world patrimony in 1999.

But these preoccupations are sometimes far away for these poor population. Over-grazing, market-gardening, too much wood-cutting cause irremediable harm: the regression of the argan-tree zone increases the risk of advancing desert, soil erosion and disappearance of local ecosystems.

The argan-tree has been a source of life since the beginning of time. It is primordial today to protect it to contribute to durable development and preserve future generations.
