tree of life
n this extremely vulnerable region it is the pillar of a progressing but fragile economy and sometimes the only means of survival for the population.
The argan-tree gives everything it has: its wood used as fuel, its leaves and fruit as fruit for goats and its precious honey-coloured nectar, a golden oil with unequalled virtues : argan oil.
In Morocco this oil has always been used in human alimentation, in traditional medicine and the Berber women use it to beautify their faces, bodies and hair.
Argan oil is a women’s affair and a long lasting task: no less than 8 hours of work are necessary to produce 1 liter of argan oil. They pick the fruit, take off the pulp covering the kernel which they break to extract the precious amendons. These are then crushed to obtain a paste, which after a long mixing, finally excudes the oil.
